Dolmabahce Palace shore checks: closed Monday, foreign ticket 2,000 TL, about 2 hours inside, and a Sultanahmet day that does not hold this gate.
Dolmabahce Palace is the Besiktas shore clock, not a room on the Sultanahmet ridge. Essential 5 shore checks cover a Monday closure, ticket desks from 09:00 to 17:00, and the foreign visitor price of 2,000 TL on the National Palaces board for Selamlik, Harem and the Painting Museum. The Museum Card does not open the Selamlik. Allow about two hours inside, and photograph the clock tower before security. Morning, standard and deluxe stay on the old city. Add this gate as its own block, ideally on a Tuesday when Topkapi is shut. A 14:00 landing is a hotel night, not a same-day Selamlik.

Dolmabahce Palace sits on the Besiktas shore, not on the Sultanahmet ridge your morning voucher already covers. The clock tower is the photo. The ticket starts at the gate behind it. Desks run 09:00 to 17:00, the palace is closed on Monday, and the foreign visitor price published by the National Palaces for Selamlik, Harem and the Painting Museum is 2,000 TL. We walk this as a licensed Istanbul operator, TÜRSAB 16602. These are the five shore checks we write on the Build Your Own Istanbul Tour planner before anyone treats a deluxe day as a waterfront palace.
Dolmabahce Palace checks before you leave the hotel
Guests land with one picture: the white palace, the tower, the Bosphorus. Then they try to bolt that picture onto a 09:00 Sultanahmet start. The square and the shore are different clocks. Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia and Topkapi live on the ridge. Dolmabahce Palace lives in Besiktas, about 8 km from a Sultanahmet hotel, 25 to 45 minutes in a private car once you are out of the square.
The tower you want is outside the paid rooms. You can stand on the quay, shoot the facade and the bridge, and still have bought nothing. Selamlik, Harem and the Painting Museum are the ticket. The crystal staircase people mean is inside that ticket, not a second palace down the road.
Build the week before you build the photo. Monday is a ridge day. Tuesday is the shore day if Topkapi is shut. A single Tuesday that tries to hold Topkapi, the bazaar and this gate will drop one of them in traffic.

Five shore checks
| Check | Do this | Skip this |
|---|---|---|
| 1. The day | Tuesday to Sunday. Ticket desks 09:00 to 17:00 | Monday, and New Year’s Day |
| 2. The ticket | Official Selamlik + Harem + Painting Museum. Foreign board price 2,000 TL. Read the QR date | A street seller between the van and the tower |
| 3. The card | Buy the palace ticket even if you hold a Museum Card | Assuming the card opens the Selamlik |
| 4. The clock | About 2 hours for both wings. Tower photos before you enter | A 40-minute dash between Topkapi and a cruise |
| 5. The voucher | Keep this gate off morning, afternoon, standard and deluxe | A listing that renames the shore as if it were Topkapi |
Children aged 0 to 6 are free on the official palace board. Students aged 7 to 25 need the card the desk asks for. Foreign students pay twice the discounted rate and should carry the student ID, not a photo of it on a dead phone.
Monday, and the 2,000 TL ticket
The palace page of the Presidency of National Palaces is the board we use: closed Monday, ticket offices 09:00 to 17:00, Victory Day and Republic Day open, New Year’s Day closed. Confirm the week you fly on the official Dolmabahce Palace page. A blog screenshot from March will not open the gate in October.
On that same page the foreign visitor price for Selamlik + Harem + Painting Museum is 2,000 TL, domestic visitors 250 TL, discount 150 TL. The ticket line says it is valid for a week. The e-ticket screen has, in other seasons, shown a longer window and a different total. Read the date and the amount on the QR before you leave the hotel. If the board and the checkout disagree, the checkout you paid is the one the gate will scan. Do not buy a second ticket from a man at the rail.
The Museum Card is valid in many National Palaces rooms. It is not valid in the Dolmabahce Selamlik. A card that worked at a smaller pavilion will not replace the 2,000 TL ticket at this gate. Ask once at the desk if you are unsure, then pay the published ticket. Arguing the card at 10:30 only shortens the two hours you still need inside.
How long inside the gate

Plan two hours from the security desk to the exit if you walk Selamlik and Harem at a normal pace and still look at the ceremonial hall. The Painting Museum sits on the same ticket name. Add it only if the legs are still willing. A family that also wants the tower, a tea, and the quay photos should call the block three hours door to door from the moment the van stops.
Attendants stop cameras in several state rooms. Take the tower, the rail and the wet quay before you go through security. Inside, follow the room attendant. The room where Ataturk died on 10 November 1938 is on the route. Keep the pace quiet there. It is a bedroom with a clock, not a backdrop.
Floors are polished. Shoes with a grip beat new leather. Leave the big daypack in the van. Security is slower with a suitcase than with a small bag, and you do not need a suitcase in a state room. A light layer helps. The shore wind is colder than the square even when the rooms are warm. Pack notes that still apply on a palace morning: what to pack for Istanbul.
Last useful arrival if you want both wings is about 15:30. Desks close at 17:00. A 16:40 arrival photographs the tower and buys a story about the staircase you did not see.
Why deluxe does not hold this palace
Morning from €125 is 08:00 to 13:00 on the square. Afternoon from €165 is the gallery plus palace or cistern on that same ridge. Standard from €230 is 09:00 to 17:00 in a private Mercedes Vito, lunch, Hagia Sophia, Topkapi, and the Grand Bazaar while it is open. Tuesday Plan B on that day is the Basilica Cistern, not the shore. Deluxe from €290 still ends on one finale: Bosphorus cruise or Balat. None of those clocks holds Dolmabahce Palace.
If a page pastes the white palace onto a €230 ridge day, it is selling Topkapi under the wrong photograph. The product that matches the ridge is the standard full day from €230. The longer day with one water or hill finale is the deluxe full day from €290. Add this gate as its own Besiktas block on the builder, on a morning that is not already carrying Topkapi.
The useful split in a short week is simple. Monday: old city, because this palace is shut and Topkapi is open. Tuesday: this shore, because Topkapi is shut and the palace is open, with the cistern as the indoor spare if you still want a second ticket. Sunday: bazaar closed, palace open. Do not stack Sunday bazaar hopes onto a shore morning.
The drive from Sultanahmet
About 8 km. Off-peak, 25 minutes. Late afternoon toward the bridge, closer to 45. Walking the coast is a stroll for people who have already finished their tickets, not a connector between Hagia Sophia and the Selamlik. We send the Vito. Six passengers, six bags, hotel pickup, drop at the palace side, and the driver waits or returns for the pickup time you set.
If the hotel itself is in Besiktas, the airport run is a different product from the Sultanahmet run. IST to Besiktas is the published vehicle price from €45, about 38 km, on Istanbul Airport to Besiktas. A Sultanahmet hotel still uses the Sultanahmet airport pages, then a separate hop to the palace on the day you choose.
Book the inbound before you fly: Istanbul Airport to Sultanahmet, fixed €45 for the vehicle, meet at IST Gate 9, CEO 34 on the pole. SAW is the longer twin at a fixed €65, pillar 10. A 14:00 landing is a hotel night, not a same-day Selamlik. Desks are already winding down, and Monday may be the next morning anyway.
Four nights can hold a ridge day, a shore morning, and one finale. That map, with this gate kept off the deluxe voucher, is the Istanbul 4 day itinerary. The first hotel night, before any palace, is first day in Istanbul.

Common questions
Is Dolmabahce Palace open on Monday?
No. The official board closes the palace on Monday. Topkapi is the palace that closes on Tuesday. Swap the days. Do not spend Monday in a taxi hoping the tower gate is an exception.
Does the Museum Card cover the Selamlik?
No. National Palaces states the Museum Card is not valid in the Dolmabahce Selamlik. Budget the foreign ticket at the published 2,000 TL and confirm the checkout total the week you go.
Can you see the clock tower without a ticket?
Yes. The tower and the quay are outside. The staircase, the ceremonial hall and the Harem need the ticket. Shoot the tower first, then enter.
How early should you leave Sultanahmet?
For a 09:00 desk, leave the hotel about 08:15 off-peak and earlier if you are crossing the square at school-run time. Last start for both wings is about 15:30.
Is this on the deluxe tour?
No. Deluxe holds the ridge tickets and one finale, cruise or Balat. This shore is a separate block. Book it that way on the builder.
Are photos allowed inside?
The quay and the tower, yes. Several state rooms, no. The attendant in the room is the rule for that room. Do not argue a blog against a guard.
What if the e-ticket date and the palace page disagree?
The page we link says the Selamlik, Harem and Painting Museum ticket is valid for a week. The payment screen may show another window. Believe the date printed on your QR, and do not fly in on the last evening of that window.
Book the return with the inbound: Sultanahmet to Istanbul Airport. A 16:00 flight is a midday pickup. There is no Selamlik that morning. Compare the partner inbound if you are checking both desks, Istanbul Airport to Sultanahmet, then confirm one car. Shore clocks on the partner brand, same palace, different desk: Hagia gate clocks. Close the sitting on the Build Your Own Istanbul Tour planner with the inbound, one ridge day, one shore morning, and the Istanbul Airport to Sultanahmet car already named. The outbound stays Sultanahmet to Istanbul Airport. That is Dolmabahce Palace with the Monday, the ticket and the ridge kept apart.
