Topkapı Palace, Harem & Hagia Irene
Topkapı was the seat of Ottoman power for centuries. Your combined foreign ticket covers the palace courtyards, the Harem, and Hagia Irene, so you are not buying three separate lines at the gate. Plan roughly 90–120 minutes: First Courtyard context, treasury and kitchen wings as opening hours allow, Harem corridors with clear storytelling, and Hagia Irene as the quieter Byzantine church inside the palace complex. Cobbles and slopes add up; wear solid shoes. Children 0–6 are free on the foreign combined ticket with ID.
Tuesday Plan B: Basilica Cistern
Topkapı is closed on Tuesdays. That day we replace it with the Basilica Cistern (Yerebatan) plus Süleymaniye or Gülhane. The Cistern ticket is included instead of Topkapı so voucher value stays intact. Underground columns, Medusa bases, and cool air make a strong imperial afternoon even when the palace gate is shut.
Hagia Sophia visitor gallery
After Topkapı (or Cistern Plan B), you continue to Hagia Sophia on the tourist visitor route. The package covers the official visitor gallery entrance. Friday prayer can shift timing; your guide often keeps Topkapı first so Hagia Sophia opens cleanly afterward. Briefing happens outside; inside you follow the published path for mosaics and dome views.
Grand Bazaar short finish
A short Kapalıçarşı walk closes the afternoon when the market is open. Sundays switch to Spice Bazaar, Arasta, or Cankurtaran lanes. You get orientation and photo stops without a marathon shopping push.
